Everything You Need to Know About Delta-8 Diamonds

When you think of the word diamond, you probably think of engagement rings or other types of jewelry, but you don’t necessarily think of Delta-8 THC. Delta-8 diamonds aren’t jewelry, they are the cleanest and purest form of Delta-8 THC available today. They are about 98% with nominal traces of other cannabinoids and terpenes. That’s about as pure as you can get!

What are Delta-8 Diamonds Anyway?

Delta-8 diamonds refer to one of two things:

The first is tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) crystalline or, THCA diamonds. They’re formed from crystalizing tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. These are developed in a terpene rich solution sometimes marketed as “terp sauce”. (We’ll talk about “terp sauce” a little later!)

The second is cannabidiol (CBD) crystals, which are a form of CBD isolate. These are the purest form of cannabidiol composed of at least 98% cannabidiol.

The principal difference between both types of diamonds is how they’re processed and refined.

The most common is the supercritical CO₂ process. The plants themselves get processed and filtered out to remove excess waxes and other unwanted components. The end result is a CBD isolate that can range from powdery crystal, like fine sugar, to what look like small chunks of rock candy.

Regardless of how they’re processed, both types are pure cannabinoids in crystalline form.

But before the processing and refining, how are diamonds formed?

How Are Diamonds Formed?

Again, like their gem counterparts, diamonds are crystals. Gem diamonds are made through pressurizing carbon for hundreds of thousands of years. Fortunately, Delta-8 diamonds don’t take quite as long to form.

Here is the simple explanation. The process is more complex and precise than this, but this will give you a round-about idea of how diamonds are formed. Have you ever had honey that sat in the back of your pantry and crystalized on the bottom? CBD diamonds are formed in a similar way. Remember the terpene rich extract or “terp sauce” we mentioned? This is a thick cannabis extract that has a honey-like color and consistency.

Naturally, over time, the diamonds naturally crystalize at the bottom of the container as the natural alcohol and water evaporate from the terp sauce. Of course, a lot is left to chance if you let diamonds form naturally, so the process is sped up and controlled to be purer, timelier and more cost effective.

The diamonds that are “mined” from these containers and are covered in the thickened, concentrated, residual terp sauce. The remaining super concentrated terp sauce is extracted and can be used on its own in vape cartridges that are sometimes called “sauce carts”.

The diamonds can be left “raw” with the residual terp sauce on them, or they can be refined and concentrated even more. This is like the difference between turbinado sugar and white refined sugar. Both are granular and can be used in the same way. However, refined sugar has a more concentrated sweetness and turbinado sugar is more natural and mellow flavored.

Does Size Matter? In This Case, It Doesn’t

In the jewelry business, the bigger the diamond better. Not so in Delta-8 diamond mining. Unlike the gems that share their name, the size of the diamond doesn’t necessarily reflect its quality. Simply put, pure terp sauce does not create bigger diamonds. Their size and shape are influenced by environmental factors like temperature moisture in the extraction process. This means that bigger diamonds may have more impurities in them. And the smaller diamonds made from the purest, most organic terp sauce would actually be the purer.
For example, you could mine an enormous diamond from terp sauce that is full of solvents and chemical impurities, such as sterols, lipids and other terpenes, altering the crystallization process. To use to use our sugar metaphor again, this is very similar to the way certain chemical factors impede and interfere with crystal sugar crystallization and its separation from molasses. Similarly, when the crystallization of the cannabinoids is disrupted by impurities, it affects the diamond structure.
It’s important to research your suppliers and the quality of their diamonds, but also keep in mind that bigger is not necessarily better.

How Do I Use Delta-8 Diamonds?

Here are the two most popular ways to use Delta-8 Diamonds:

Dabbing

This is a popular way to use Delta-8 diamonds. Like other forms of vapor inhaling, you melt the diamonds and inhale the cloud of vapor. But dabbing isn’t exactly that simple. You need a bit of equipment before you dab, like a torch lighter, a dabbing tool, a dab rig and of course your diamonds.

In order to dab diamonds, you put the diamonds on the dab tool and you heat them with the torch lighter until they’re red hot. Then you wait about a minute to let the heated diamonds cool off, so you don’t burn yourself, then you inhale. Because the diamonds are concentrated, and the vapor is coming in direct contact with your bloodstream, the effects are almost immediate.

Dabbing can be a little expensive and the process is a bit time consuming. So, although this is a popular way to use Delta-8 diamonds it’s not the most convenient. Also, because you’re working with an open flame, it isn’t always the safest method either.

Vaping

Vaping is the number one, most popular way to use Delta-8 diamonds. Vaping is very similar to dabbing in that you’re inhaling heated Delta-8 diamond vapor. However vaping and dabbing have some distinct differences.

All you need is either a disposable vape pen, or a reusable vape pen and a cartridge. Then you just press and inhale. That’s it! It’s that simple! You don’t have to worry about the vapor getting too hot. You don’t have to worry about being safe around an open flame. The vape pen does it all for you. This is why vaping is by far the most popular way to use Delta-8 diamonds. It’s a more convenient, safer and it overall tastes better.
